Program Overview

Miami University’s M.Ed. in Counselor Education prepares you to support individuals, families, and communities through professional counseling practice. The program combines synchronous and asynchronous online coursework with an on-site pre-practicum skills component and in-person clinical experiences. You will develop counseling skills through supervised practicums and internships in settings such as schools, hospitals, and community clinics. You can specialize in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, or pursue a dual specialization to expand your career opportunities.

Career Outcomes

With your Counselor Education, M.Ed., you can work in a variety of settings, including schools, healthcare organizations, and community-based agencies. You can become a mental health counselor, school counselor, career counselor, and other relevant roles. ​​

The program is approved by the Counselor, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapist (CSWMFT) Board and has obtained temporary licensure approval under the Ohio Rule 4757-13-07 Counseling Program Approval for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialty. Additionally, the program has licensure approval from the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) for the School Counseling specialty (License Type: Pupil Services, School Counselor).
